Repentance

The only thing that is going to bring genuine revival to America is repentance. The world doesn’t know how to do it and so we need to show them. However, many Christians have forgot how to do it. Repentance takes place in the sunlight of His holiness. If we are sensitive to God and repent before the world in the sunlight of God’s glory it awakens the conscience of the world. They will then fear the Lord and appreciate Him as a God of holiness. I am not talking about repentance as an event. I’m not talking about repentance as an experience. Repentance is an attitude. Repentance is a posture. It is living sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Repentance is not about me. It is not focusing on me so deep that I see my own sins and cry my eyes out. Now there should be tears. But repentance is not ultimately introspective. It involves an introspective glance and appropriate awareness but then pulls back. The only reason you repent is you see yourself in the light of His holiness. If you are repenting based on a list, a legalistic list then you are in a cycle that will be repetitive. Repentance is seeing God’s glory…His holiness and then myself. I repent but then my gaze has to immediately return to back to God. I see His holiness. I see my lack of holiness and I turn back to Him because in Him is my own wholeness. Repentance isn’t tied to me. It isn’t tied even entirely to my sin. My sin is an adjective or an adverb in the process. It is not the primary subject. God is the primary subject. He has revealed Himself to me and I want to be like Him. God I want to be like you but I find myself so much like the world. Change me O Lord. I cannot change myself. Repentance is not putting yourself on a treadmill of good works. It is leaning on the grace of God where you realize the Holy Spirit will give you the power to behave in renewed ways. Repentance is an attitude. It is being sorry for my sin and believing that God will change me. It is tied to belief.
